Ending Dumsor: Economic Advisor assures “money is not a problem”
Economic Advisor to President Mahama, Dr.
Nii-Moi Thompson has reiterated
government’s commitment to end the power crisis which is currently crippling
the country.
According to Dr. Nii-Moi Thompson, funding is not a problem and that government has already made contingency plans
to address the energy crisis.
Minister
of Power, Dr. Kwabena Donkor on Monday revealed that as part of measures to end
the energy crisis, emergency power badgers will be employed to deal with the
situation.
Ghana
is currently shedding some 440 megawatts during off peak time, which Dr. Donkor
attributes to poor maintenance at Asogli Plant as well as 2 units at Akosombo
Dam which are currently non-functional.
The $622-million-400-Megawatt Bui
hydropower station, according to the Power Minister is not a white elephant as
suggested by some Ghanaians.
The
Electricity Company of Ghana has been directed to release a new load shedding
timetable and adhere to the time zones.
Dr. Nii-Moi Thompson tasked Ghanaians to be
optimistic and co-operate with government as it finds a lasting solution to the
deteriorating energy crisis.
He
however admitted that if long term measures were put in place previously, the
country would not have been plunged into this mess.
