GhanaThink Foundation’s Barcamp Kumasi 2014 to celebrate, connect and cultivate more local heroes

Barcamp Kumasi 2014 is a free networking forum bringing people together for a day of discussion, demos and dialogue on Kumasi, Ghana and beyond. It takes place on November 1, 2014 at the C ollege of Architecture & Planning Exhibition Block, KNUST . The theme for this year is " Youth Entrepreneurship: Celebrating Our Heroes". Ghanaian doctors, nurses addicted to ‘heroin drug’ pethidine

OSEIVIEWS’s investigations have revealed that several doctors and nurses in Ghana’s health facilities are abusing Pethidine, a strong painkiller that has the components of heroin and cocaine. The only Psychiatrist at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, Dr. Gordon Donnir who confirmed this in an exclusive interview with, says the drug has severe side effects on its users, some of whom have become very addicted to it. Pethidine is a strong analgesic for any form of pain. But when wrongly administered or taken in overdose, one portrays same symptoms as a cocaine or heroin addict. It is an Opioid analgesic drug used to treat pain particularly after an operation or during child birth. Pethidine is supplied in the form of a pink ampoule that can be opened, drawn up in a syringe and injected. Kumawu queen mother accused of bribing king makers

The human rights court in Kumasi has deferred its judgment to 17 th of October in the Kumawu chieftaincy dispute. The Aduana Abusuapanin of Kumawu has applied for an interlocutory injunction to restrict the Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II, the Asanteman council and five others from engaging in any activity that could lead to the Installation of the Chief of Kumawu in the Sekyere Afram Plains District of the Ashanti Region Kwaku Gyekyei and other chiefs of Kumawu say they will resist any attempt to enstool Dr. Yaw Sarfo as the chief of Kumawu. The Kumawu stool has been vacant close for nearly seven years after the death of Barima Asumadu Sakyi II. Few months ago, attempts to enstool a chief under heavy security was fiercely resisted. In a latest twist to the case, Nana Kwaku Gyekyei and Opanin Kwabena Kodua have filed for an interlocutory injunction to restrict Otumfour and others from installing a new chief.
