Chinese Ambassador cuts sod for project to start

The Chinese Ambassador in Ghana, Jung Gong, has cut the sod for work to begin on the Gong Agricultural Project at Anyaboni near Asesewa in the Upper Manya District. The project, which is being supported by the Ghana Chinese Friendship Association, is for crop production under irrigation on 500 acres of land and aqua culture promotion in the area. Speaking at the event the Member of Parliament for Upper Manya Krobo, Mr Tetteh Kavianu, said the project was an effort to raise income levels of farmers in the area, reduce poverty, malnutrition and child labour in the project area. He said the project would also introduce new fishing methods to the fisher folks in the area and appealed to the community to see the project as their own. Mr Jung urged Ghana to focus on agriculture since it was the basis of the economy and a catalyst for industrialization and building of a strong democracy. NPP Paul Afoko involve in an accident

Reports reaching oseiview, indicates that the convoy of Mr Paul Afoko, one of the aspiring candidate for the chairmanship position of the New Patriotic Party has been involve in an accident.  One of his aides George Mereku Duka confirmed this to oseiview but said Mr Afoko is unhurt but currently at the Tamale Hospital undergoing medical checks.  Mr Afoko is in the north region to calm down his supporters who have threatened to bus themselves to the Accra to protest rumors about his disqualification from the NPP chairmanship race and petition against his candidature by some groups in the party.  Stay tune for tapes on evil crusade against Mr Afoko.............

Recently smallholder farmers met and came to the conclusion that, though government recognised the problems facing smallholder farmers, only limited steps have been taken to address the situation. This conclusion by smallholder farmers was reached at a consultative meeting between the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), farmers and farmer networks organised by ActionAid Ghana to create a platform to discuss the main issues and concerns of the smallholder farmer. Has Ghana indeed forsaken its smallholder farmers - both men and women? The importance of smallholders, men and women, for lasting food security in Ghana should be beyond doubt.
