THE PREZ SPOKE IN HAUSA. DID HE COMMUNICATE?

Today marks a very special day in the lives of our brothers and sisters in the adorable religion of peace Islam. I need not remind you that it remains a day of sacrifice and sharing and one memory i have had to live with is that later tomorrow and in the next few days to come, you will be involutarily breathing in some powerful aroma of meals emanating from meals cooked by neighbours because there is plenty of meat in the system now. I have not had mine though.

Now to the main issue. While in a trotro going to meet with a friend this morning at Ofankor barrier, i heard on radio H.E. John Dramani Mahama the President of the republic addressing some Muslim faithfuls and the nation to mark this significant religious event. One factor that thrilled and struck me first was that the president spoke in a local parlance which is Hausa. Well, you might have also been surprised to hear His Excellency speak Hausa. Not surprised because i might be thinking he could not speak, but surprised because i was simply impressed. One pedigree i have known about the president is that he is a communicator and knows how to play his cards well when it comes to communication. I only hear our presidents speak in the local parlance only when they are on campaign platforms. It was simply refreshing and i imagined how the Hausa community in Ghana felt proud hearing their President speak their language.

While in the trotro, a woman who was sited by me and obviously an N.P.P. sympathizer by what she said, simply uttered that "N de die33 mene jehun" meaning "Today am impressed". It appeared the President had never impressed her with anything but for delivering a speech in Hausa.
On Facebook, i came across a post by a friend who is known for his regular bashing and castigation at the presidency because of his political affiliation virtually commending the President for an impressive address. Was it the content or language?
So i ask, were you also impressed?
