CIRCLE PHONE SWAPPING, GET A BOND OR GET A BOMB!! part 1.
This is Kwame Nkrumah circle, one of the most bustling zones in the capital Accra. A place that serves as a complete business center for young boys especially for those who have no other form of job to do. It might be a complete bore to many of you reading this if i continue to describe the territory with so many acronyms. But whether you agree with me or not, this is one of the few areas in Accra that is choked with different kinds of people who at the slightest complacency on your part, will screw you and secretly pick you as if you were sleeping. Even your testicles could be stolen if you lose guard. This is not to suggest that nothing good comes from this area, but it only takes "smart people" to get good things from circle.
It is exactly a year ago when i first came to Accra to finalize my passport process. I happened to find myself here at the Kwame Nkrumah circle for only God knows what. Long before i arrived here, friends had already filled my ears with many stories about Kwame Nkrumah circle and implored me to be very alert and extra vigilant when i come around here. Well, i never believed most of the stories because they sounded too cruel to be true. Maybe before i finish my story, you will appreciate the axiom that this place is a den of criminals.
My first visit to this territory fortunately or somewhat unfortunately was at night. I was welcomed by the sight of very beautiful and colored young ladies who in fact had all that a man will need in their right proportions. I did not need anyone to whisper in my ear at that moment that what i was seeing was a horde of prostitutes. Completely fascinated by what i was seeing, i virtually forgot i was hanging my laptop in my bag. I was walking around and feeding my eyes on them and waiting for a friend to pull in with a car and pick me up as we arranged. Seriously at this time, people around quickly realized i was a complete stranger because it was boldly written on my face and in my actions. I was completely petrified when a bartender called me up and offered me a sit in his bar because he heard some group of guys talking and pointing fingers at me. Surely they wanted to come for my bag. Thanks to that bartender though inside that bar was a complete hell where all the nasty activities were in high gear maybe because it was a Saturday night. I cant talk about them now.
Thinking i knew all the tricks and so i could make my way through without any problem, i had my first shot of welcome treat to Accra when i returned the second time to report to school. Until now i cant fathom how my wallet containing some 30gh cedis plus my ID"s was taken from my pocket when i stood for just 5mins to board a vehicle after closing from lecture one evening. On that same night, a course mate of mine who i was moving with had his brand new Samsung S II phone snatched while making a call. Fortunately we nabbed that thief but he had already passed on the phone to another thief friend of his. I will reserve what happened to him that night and tell you in part 2 of this story.
One major business activity that takes place here is the phone swapping business. Have you tried it before?
Just yesterday, i stopped by with a friend who needed to swap a phone and that is a completely new story all together. Did we get a BOND or BOMB in our search? .........................I will tell you tomorrow in part 2.
