Innovative idea / concept & how does it promote transparency and accountability?: In northern Ghana, a large number of communities don’t have access to information as compared to the cities and the southing part of the country. One way we can promote access to information and promote citizen participation, is to introduce community information centers. The community information center will not cost more than 10, 000 US dollars with horns they can broadcast to the whole community even if they don’t want to listen, they will be to listen because it is broadcast in the whole community. The communities will link up with radio stations to provide information to the people also pick information from the District Assemblies office to educate the community on what government is doing and how they can also make their plight and other challenges known to the government through forwarding complaints to this information center.
What does your government engagement strategy entail?: The government disseminate information through District Assemblies information services department and National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) but these organizations not have resources to go deep into the communities to re-double efforts in its information Dissemination policy. must district complaints about gadgets and funds which hinder their activities because the Assembly is engage in many areas. not much attention is given to making information accessibly to the people
Your idea/concepts’ effect on gender equality, disadvantaged groups and/or grassroots? : There many communities in the northern Ghana where bad cultural practices are still going. I believe with the introduction of information centers community members can get information as to how to end this practices. Most of the negative culture practices go on in these communities because they don’t have access to information. Organizations can also take advantage of this to organize advocacy programs at the information centers to broadcast to the people.
Why should YOU win?: i believe i should win this project because my idea can help change lives in deprive communities in the northern part of Ghana. these community needs help by letting their views heard and participate in decision making in the country, when this is done they will be recognize and their plight solve.
Access to information and transparency are considered a vaccine for ensuring good governance and countries must gear up for this vaccine to ensure accountability and prevent corruption. this innovative idea will help sen information to rural folks
